Are you passionate about improving health and wellbeing and achieving equity through creating a sustainable healthy food system?  

Toi Te Ora Public Health (Toi Te Ora) is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and multi-skilled public health nutritionist or dietitian to be part of our Health Improvement team. 

If you have a passion and interest in food and nutrition for health and wellbeing and enjoy influencing others to make the healthy choice the easy choice and achieving equity, then this may be the role for you.  You will work across different strategic areas to plan and deliver a range of health promotion approaches to improve food security, prevent childhood obesity and strengthen our food system to improve the health and wellbeing of the population living in the Bay of Plenty and Lakes districts. 

The roles involves developing effective relationships and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to support making changes where people live, learn, work and play through a settings based health promotion approach with a particular focus on achieving health equity for Māori with regards to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.


Your work will focus on creating change and strengthening our food system to be more sustainable, healthy, resilient and equitable. Experience in improving food security, food policy, food environment change, population based behaviour change programmes and/or group training and education would set you apart from other applicants.  


To be successful in this role you will be a systems thinker and be skilled at developing effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.  You will be team orientated, adaptable, and experienced in project management and have excellent communication skills.  You will be knowledgeable of kaupapa Māori, aware of relevant health strategies and committed to achieving equity for Māori.  A qualification in public health, nutrition or dietetics or related field and previous experience in public health nutrition is preferred.

The community engagement/health promotion team has reached its maximum workload capacity and now needs a team lead to support their awesome mahi.  The team lead will also be responsible for developing a tane ora suicide prevention resource and a tangihanga suicide bereavement resource. Strong networks with Māori communities and an understanding of reo and tikanga, and respectful insight gathering to address community need is key to making this role work.

Equally as important is an ability to support the rest of the team to meet their deadlines, tautoko their wellbeing and create a team full of awhi for each other, the org and for the kaupapa.  We need someone who is prepared to work hard, and juggle priorities with heart.
